After sharing some mutual friends through varsity I was quite excited when Margriet booked me to photograph her maternity shoot in 2011. By the time little Wian’s new born shoot came around, we were already close friends. Now 4 years and many family shoots later it was Margriet’s turn to shine on her own. Having many friends who are moms and being an instant mom myself, I know how easy it is to put yourself on the back burner and forget how it feels to have a moment that is yours alone in its entirety. I encouraged Margriet to indulge and treat herself; to not only some beautiful portraits, but also to the expert styling of a professional hair & make up artist all the while sipping on some bubbly and chatting away with close friends. A girly day just for us.
When styling the look for Margriet’s Shoot I focused on deep rich colours and luxurious fabrics with use of silk, satin and velvet. Margriet has a exuberant and larger than life personality and I wanted to capture this in the styling of the shoot while still keeping a very glamourous & elegant feel to it all. It is not everyday that a girl gets her picture taken so it has to be a little bit more than you are used to.
A big thank you to Aleit Swanepoel for opening his home to us and giving the girls free reign for the day. Your hospitality and generosity just made the day extra special. Thank you to the talented Marnel Torien who is responsible for Margriet’s beautiful hair & make up styling and last but not least my amazing friend Angelique Smith for always helping out and doing some behind the scenes shots of me at work. Your time and talents were much appreciated xoxo
