The Mother of All Cities
Voted as the Best City in the world by the 2015/2016 Telegraph Travel Awards with its beautiful beaches , a mountian that is so remarkable, it is one of the 7 wonders of the world and diverse cultural history; its no wonder our beautiful home is getting accolades from across the globe . So this month I would like to celebrate the beauty of my home with the rest of the world because the Mother City creeps into your heart like no other city in the world.
I might just be a little biased about this, being a Cape Tonian but I often hear from foreigners that they come back here on vacation, every year or every chance they get, because Cape Town has creeped into their hearts so much that they can’t resist coming back. I read somewhere that the reason for this is because Cape Town is small enough for people to feel at home within a few days but so rich in culture and sights to see that it can keep you busy for quite a long time. As a Cape Tonian I can definitely attest to that. I have a list as long as my arm of things I would like to do on my off days and it just gets longer every day. Most of them include food, wine and some beautiful view in true Cape Tonian style. Its no surprise though; as Cape Town takes top honour as the number one food city in the world in the recent Condé Nast’s highly acclaimed Reader’s Choice Awards .
It is no surprise that brides & grooms from all over the world are deciding to make Cape Town their wedding destination of choice. With excellent food & wine, breathtaking scenery and some of the best wedding industry fundies in the world, based right here in the mother city is where the magic happens. One such wedding was most definitely Lise & Tiaan’s Love Cape Town celebration which took place in March this year. If you are a true Cape Tonian then its no surprise that you want to incorporate as much of this into your special day as possible and that is exactly what Lise & Tiaan did. Their love for the ocean surrounding our beautiful city was celebrated by saying their I Do’s on Clifton Beach and then partying the night away at the at the Royal Cape Yacht Club at the V & A Waterfront.
Ranked in the top 50 of fashion capitols around the globe Cape Town has some of the best designer’s and especially when it comes to Bridal Fashion. When Brigitte from Schönmich Accessories, a German based bridal headpiece & accessory company contacted me to do a creative collaboration with her when she was on holidayI couldn’t think of better bridal gowns then beautifully locally designed Anna Georgina Bridal Collection, to pair her headpieces with. Set on the rocks just next to Clifton Beach and it captured that beautiful wind blown bohemian feeling you get spending time on the beaches of our city. It even got a feature in the Hochzeitsguide online magazine The Vow with my image making the cover. A true buckelist moment for me and a wonderful showcase of the Cape Town wedding industry has to offer.
Another local designer I have wanted to work with for a very long time is the very talented Janita Toerien. Her beautiful dresses have taken the world by storm with one particular dress getting thousands of repins. Janita’s elegant and playful designs where perfect for a iphoneography bridal fashion shoot I had in mind. The aim of the shoot was to capture bridal fashion on the streets of Cape Town with nothing but my Iphone 6 Plus as camera equipment. No lighting or light modifications tools. Just us and the streets of the most beautiful city in the world. A feast for the eyes with quite few iconic Cape Town locations and beautiful bridal fashion.
