A la Mode Portrait : Lady In Red
After sharing some mutual friends through varsity Margriet booked me to photograph her maternity shoot in 2011. By the time little Wian’s newborn shoot came around, we were already close friends. Now 4 years and many family sessions later, it was Margriet’s turn to shine on her own in her A la Mode Portrait Session.
Having many friends who are moms and being an instant mom myself, I know how easy it is to put yourself on the back burner and forget how it feels to have a moment that is yours alone. I encouraged Margriet to indulge and treat herself; to not only some beautiful portraits but also to the expert styling of a professional hair & makeup artist while sipping on some bubbly and chatting away with close friends. A girly day just for us!
A la Mode Style
With the styling of the lookbooks for this session, I focused on deep rich colours and luxurious fabrics. Margriet has an exuberant and larger than life personality. I captured this in the styling of the shoot while still keeping a very glamorous & elegant feel. It is not every day that a girl gets her picture taken and deciding to get out your comfort zone is never a bad idea.
A big thank you to Aleit Swanepoel for opening his home to us and giving us girls free reign for the day. Your hospitality and generosity just made the day extra special. Thank you to the talented Marnel Torien who is responsible for Margriet’s beautiful hair & makeup styling. Last but not least my amazing friend Angelique Smith for always helping out and doing some behind the scenes shots of me at work. Your time and talents were much-appreciated xoxo
