A Georgian Fashion Story

Dearest readers, it has come to my attention that the unpredictable whims of winter have kept many of us confined indoors, indulging in the comfort of a cozy fire and perhaps a season or two of our beloved Bridgerton. On such occasions, one is reminded of the whimsical allure of costume history, a subject I have adored since my University days.

The esteemed Rene H and I found ourselves delightfully connected through our mutual appreciation for fashion that transcends time. Rene's remarkable talent for creating beautifully elaborate gowns is nothing short of a revelation.

With Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte fresh in my mind, I find it only fitting to revisit and share Part 1 of this gorgeous concept shoot, where the elegance of yesteryear graces our present day. Allow me to guide you through a tableau where the past meets the present, in the most fashionable of manners.

In those illustrious times, brides graced the aisle in sumptuous hues of blue, silver, or even gold, each colour symbolizing prosperity and virtue. It may surprise you to learn that the tradition of wearing white did not emerge until Queen Victoria's momentous nuptials many years later. Her choice of a white gown was both daring and visionary, setting a precedent that brides have cherished ever since.

Our concept shoot brings this bygone elegance to life, allowing us to bask in the splendour of bridal fashion that once was, with a modern twist that would make even the ton's most discerning members swoon.

Our setting for this shoot, the illustrious Casa Labia in Muizenberg, Cape Town, offers a splendid backdrop, reminiscent of opulent European salons. Originally built in the 1920s, Casa Labia embodies the grandeur and sophistication of a bygone era, making it a perfect location for showcasing such period-inspired attire.

As you gaze upon these images, allow yourself to be transported to a time when grace and charm were the order of the day, and where the fusion of history and fashion creates a tableau of timeless beauty.

Yours truly,

Lady Samantha
